Butterfly on my Tummy

“ON” not “IN”…

After alighting from the train, I crossed from Edsa Shang to the other side of the street. While walking, I saw a black butterfly fluttering by:

I shooed him, so he flew past me. For some reason, I think this particular butterfly is a playful one. He didn’t bother my shooing. He flutters by while I walk. Then, he landed on my tummy.

So I let it stay there, like a fashion accessory. Somewhat like a brooch.

He flew away right after I passed by 7–11 near the Greenfield District, when I tried to take a photo of it. I bade him goodbye, then I froze.

What was that superstition again? About a black butterfly? I can’t quite remember, but it gave me the creeps. All I could recall from the superstition was that “something bad is going to happen.”

When I reached the office, I immediately Google'd about it, and there:

"Some people say that when a butterfly lands on you it means good luck."

Yay for me!! But then, the article went on, and it reads:

"Also, in the Philippines, a lingering black butterfly or moth in the house is taken to mean that someone in the family has died or will soon die."

I was stunned. But I shook off the idea of it.

I became more curious so I tried to do some more research on why butterflies land on people, and according to this article:

“Several species of butterflies need more sodium than that provided by nectar and are attracted by sodium in salt; they sometimes land on people, attracted by the salt in human sweat.”

And it continued with:

“…behaviour is restricted to the males, and studies have suggested that the nutrients collected may be provided as a nuptial gift along with the spermatophore, during mating.”

So… male butterflies like it sweaty… ahahaha! And this particular male butterfly liked me…

Kerilei! Chos! Wit mo naman kasi ispluk.

Meron kasing prompt e.

If you want the conversation in English, press 1. In Filipino, press 2. Chos.

Translation:

If that happens, [me] referring to the butterfly landing to Australia (Ansabeh?!), I would be completely transformed. This is metamorphosis. (Chos! Akezz naman ang epistaxis.) I am the species, which does not involve any cocoon stage. (In short, walang pangit na stage. Wit akezz ugly-duckling. Ganda all over.) I am the beautiful imago that will land down under. Chos!

With utmost care na ang mga next post ko. Promise. Chos! XOXO
