"I'll give my jewels for a set of beads,
My gorgeous palace for a hermitage,
My gay apparel for an almsman's gown,
My figured goblets for a dish of wood,
My sceptre for a palmer's walking staff,
My subjects for a pair of carved saints
And my large kingdom for a little grave,
A little little grave, an obscure grave;"~Richard II, Act 3 Scene 3 by William Shakespeare
***
I
remember those lines clearly, as if I am inside the four corners of the
classroom way back in high school. But, back then, I didn’t pay too much attention;
because this play was assigned to another group (the play assigned to our group was A Midsummer Night’s Dream).
Why
was it stuck in my head? Maybe, it’s because our professor in Literature read
those lines with conviction.
And it
actually makes perfect sense.
Here’s
my entry to Magpie Tales:
Passing
away…
The
end of life as we know it
It’s when
your earthly existence comes full circle…
And
what was left?
A gravestone,
An
epitaph,
An
inscription,
Of how
people remembered you…
Your
presence may have been lost
But
memories of you
Still
lingers
You
wouldn't know it, until you’re gone
But how
you lived your life matters

Sometimes we fail to realise how well connected we are.
Well spake! (and writ!) :)

How do you want to be remembered, Nate?
Yes! Good write. Love that you added the Shakespeare quote too!
Indeed!
@Mimi: thank you! :)
@JJ: aww.. thanks! i like the last line too..
@citybuoy: hmm.. good question..
i'd prefer to be remembered as The One Who Listens.. i mean, in a world:
where technology enthused people to speak their minds (from shoutouts, to wall posts, to tweets, to blog entries), where tv ads & commercials encourage people to let their voices be heard..
where most prefer apathy, others don't mind/ don't care, and only a few chose to listen..
where everybody wants to be heard..
i chose to listen..
I'd also want to be remembered as "the one who lived life to the fullest" and "the one who loves unconditionally.."
mga ganyang drama.. lols. :P
@Other Mary: thank you for kind words!

we wont know the true value of our life in our lifetime...each touch made and the ripples it caused in other...but there will be memories that out live us...
@Brian: true.. you wouldn't how you are really valued, until you're gone..
and yes, the memories we've made/ shared with the people we love and the people around us will outlive us.. :)
Pure perfection and the ending is superb.
